I am not starting a new blog. I can barely bring myself to keep up with this one. But my wife has started a new blog: "Tasting," over at Cameronhostetler.com, on the subject of mostly wine for now, but eventually food, cooking, and other things. It posts on Sundays, and I provide black and white illustrations based on the topic. It's our first collaboration! She invented the concept to go along with her WSET studies, as she prepares to take the certification test to become an official sommelier. I enjoy it because Cameron is a wise and generous art director, and the fact that I do most of the art while she's at work allows me a great deal of creative freedom.
In other news, I am still job hunting in the DC area, but I have had two interviews in the last two weeks. I also have been regularly shooting Visine into my left eye for over a month now to ward off a recurring corneal abrasion, with limited success. I joined Square City Comics, a DC-based comics collective that just lost an editor to job prospects in Colorado, which I have vocally expressed a keen interest in. And with a little luck, I will also be helping to organize the 2018 DC Zinefest. I wasn't able to attend their last meeting on account of a sudden cold that left me groggy and sniffling for two days, but I am determined to attend the next one. I will become a powerhouse in the local comics community, the guru to which all others bow. Spotty teenagers will email me hopefully for tips and tricks, and my phone will be constantly abuzz with people hoping I can put them in contact with other people! Of course, if I get a job that interferes with that, it all goes right out the window.
